About Cluster Autoscaler
Cluster Autoscaler (CA) is a Kubernetes component that automatically adjusts the number of nodes in your cluster based on demands of your workloads.
- It adds nodes when nodes are pending due to insufficient resources.
- Removes nodes when they’re underutilized and their pods can be moved elsewhere.
Our Goal here is to optimize the cost and performance by scaling the cluster dynamically.

How it Works ?
- Watches for unschedulable pods.
- Checks if adding a new node (from your configured node groups) could help.
- If yes, requests your cloud provider to scale up.
- Periodically checks for idle nodes.
- If a node is underutilized and drainable, it’s removed (scale down).
